A warm welcome to TaZoChel

I now have a new place to land. TaZoChel in downtown Kingsville is the new home to my Cedar Junktion upcycled clothing and other creations. TaZoChel is owned by Tommie Sue Reeves. It is a sweet consignment shop specializing in clothing with a mix of eclectic home items which includes wonderful homemade soap.
I have really missed creating the clothing since Southern Hearts closed its doors at the end of the year. I really appreciate what Michelle and her family provided for me while the shop was open. It was a delightful place to be. Now, Tommie Sue is giving me a fresh opportunity and she is a pleasure to work with.
Look for this label. See how I re-spelled my company name? I thought it was fitting.
This one is a fun summer dress. (notice the sugar skull at the top)
You can follow TaZoChel on facebook, too.
Soon, several of my pieces will go to the shop. First, I need to finish a few projects in the workshop before it gets crazy-hot! Catch ya later!

Magpie bait

After thoroughly exhausting my PayPal account by buying all kinds of trinkets and supplies, I decided that I better get back to making jewelry. It seems like everything I saw HAD to go in my online shopping cart. Of course, now, everyday is like Christmas when I go to my mailbox *tee hee*.

I went out to the workshop this morning and built a jewelry display then proceeded to fill it up. This display went to Southern Hearts in Kingsville.
Next, I will make up some pieces to take to Renaissance Antiques later this week. I wonder what the mailman is going to bring me tomorrow . . .

Creating a niche

Over the past 3 or 4 weeks, I've been pondering the design for these niches in my mind. I picked up the little round Virgin Mary frame at a yard sale which started the whole process.
About 3 years ago, I found a crib on the side of the road and liked all of the turned wood it had in it. I just had no idea what I would make out of it. One day, while riding in the car, I thought of adding the turned wood to the edges. I took the first one that I made down to Southern Hearts and it sold within an hour. Big old happy dance for me! I've also discovered the mark-down bin of paint at Lowe's. The color combinations are limitless!!

Cherry Tree Tea Room

I was super excited when Amanda Cherry invited to be a vendor at the Cherry Tree Tea Room. I will be featuring my new digital art calendars there. I showed her one (it is the one with the beach theme) and she told me that she would like to display 5 of them. Five of the same would be a bit much so I spent the next 10 days working up 4 more. (without my son's computer help, I might add! He has taught me well)

These calendars are behind glass so you can write all over them with a Sharpie and erase with a little alcohol.

This morning, I went with my camera to photograph how they were displayed and learned that I had already sold one! Yes, I am doing a happy dance.
The Cherry Tree Tea Room is located in historical downtown Kingsville. Their chicken salads and desserts are to die for.
Right outside the tea room is the brick that has my husband's name engraved on it. How special is that?? He shares his brick with a bunch of Yaklins.

3rd Annual Downtown Artwalk

ARTWALK AND MUSIC FESTIVAL

Today was Kingsville's 3rd Annual Artwalk and Music Festival. They block off the street and set up booths and music. The weather was gorgeous and lots of people turned out.

The Saturday Quilters displayed their beautiful quilts up and down Kleberg Avenue.

Booths were set up the entire section of the retail portion of the historic part of downtown. While checking them out, I ran into several people that I haven't seen in quite awhile. It was nice to catch up with them.

Nathan Nordstom, a.k.a. Sloke, of Austin was creating his graffiti art. It kind of reminded me of what I see the when I get stopped by the train. It's amazing what he can do with different cans of spray paint.

I left before the Kingsville Youth Ballet Folklorico came to perform. I would have like to have seen them, but I needed to get back home. Several bands will begin performing at 3:30 and then to top it off, Roger Creager start his performance at 9:35pm. The beer, wine and tequila tasting will begin at 4:30pm. Sorry to say, I'll be missing that as well. Rats!

It's a wee bit soggy around here

Dolly needs to behave herself. She has been upgraded to a Catagory 2 hurricane. We are expecting much higher winds as the day goes on. So far, we have received 2.5 inches of much-needed rain. I was surprised that they even picked up our trash this morning. I figured everyone would be hunkered down. Our county workers drove through this morning to see if we were experiencing any flooding - so far, so good! There was an indication of a tornado a little north of us. We don't need any more of that kind of nonsense!
