I can't stop myself!

I made another this afternoon. It features a working barometer that has a cute fairy that was created by Lisa's Altered Art perched on it. This one is going to my booth at Betty's tomorrow.

Assemblages are FUN!

This piece is similar to another that I had created a while back. I think this bird is an imposter. LOL. A friend of mine gave a piano to me that had already been taken apart. Lucky me! I used a couple of the hammers to make this little guy's wings.

It's fun to make assemblages. What is not fun is trying to get a good pic of them. There must be some trick to photographing glass, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I will be taking these to Southern Hearts a little later today.

W.I.T.C.H.

I found this old potato grater (that is what I call it) at Warrenton last weekend. At first glance, many people would see it as a potato grater. I saw it as an awesome surface for one of my Halloween assemblages.

The Black Hat Society

Long before there was ever a Red Hat Society, the BLACK hat society witches ladies were getting together to have their "girl" time.

I created this assemblage in a big clock that I picked up while shopping at Warrenton last weekend. It is complete with spider webs, a clock, an icky spider, and even a little mouse if you look real close. I took it to my booth at Third Coast where I have lots of cool Halloween items.

Witching hour

A while back, Anne offered the image of this woman on her blog. I have looked, but can't seem to find the post. Anywho, I decided that she would make the perfect witch with her black dress and long, slender fingers. I photo-shopped a witch's hat on her and repaired the image just a bit.

For this piece, I took an old clock and turned it upside-down. It makes such a wonderful shadowbox. Too bad the mice are running amuck. LOL :D

I made this assemblage with the embodiment of a nest in mind and today (to my delight), I learned that it was selected to be part of an ArtFire Member Curated Collection.

Sweet place to nest

If you are a bird, and you are looking for a sweet place to nest, what could possibly be sweeter than a sugar bowl? I had considered putting my assemblage in a bowl until I raided my cabinet and found this sugar bowl. I had picked it up at an antique shop in Arkansas, but it didn't have a lid. This little bird makes me smile. :D

Emily

This morning, when I went out to get the newspaper, I found this adorable little fairy.

Her name is Emily and she loves coconut macaroons and tea with lots of sugar. I think that is why she is so sweet!

I placed her in a quart-sized mason jar with air holes drilled in the top of the lid to keep her safe.

Cheezburger award

This is the funniest award I believe I have ever received. I received the Cheez Burger award because of the way Etsy abbreviates the Item Titles. Hilary spotted this on Etsy and couldn't stop laughing. Little did I know that I was offering Captured Witch Ass!

Nest Assemblage

This little guy has been sitting on my piano unfinished for quite some time. I had started on him before I took my fulltime job, but now that the job is over, I can finally get back into my studio and have some fun!

The embodiment of a nest, this assemblage contains real feathers and is labeled with a medal medallion. He is a dirty-faced creature with a vintage button on his back.

1940's

The 1940's was a trying time for many. Families were separated. Food was being rationed. Many families lost their men overseas in the war. My Mom's family packed up and moved all the way to California to work at the defense plant. This assemblage is a tribute to those times.

Excellent cowboy wisdom. This original assemblage is made using a cowboy figurine made in Japan, a horse cookie cutter and a plastic fence from a cowboys and Indians set. I have signed and dated it on the back.Overall dimensions are approximately 6.5 inches wide by 7.25 inches high by 3.25 inches deep.

Never too Late - again

I made another Never Too Late collage. This one is in a nice reclaimed shadowbox. I like the way this grouping "speaks". I made it using a reproduction Knickerbocker porcelain boy with a newspaper hat, a fabricated clockface, and a vintage Porcelain dog figurine. It has very great dimensionality.

Whether you had a happy childhood or not, there is nothing that says your childhood must end. Live each day with a child-like wonder.

Witches, witches everywhere

I don't know if the hurricane stirred them out of hiding, or if it is just the time of year when little witches start coming around, but for about the last week, I've started catching these little darlings. They've even started getting into the house.

I heard a noise in my kitchen and found this witch rummaging through my cupboards. Since I was afraid that she might bite me, I put on my oven mitt and grabbed her. Let me tell you, it was a good thing I thought of using the mitt; she fought, bit, and screamed like a banshee. I just wish I had thought of wearing earplugs too! I put her in a pint-size jar and drilled holes in the lid to keep her comfortable.

Oh, you nodder head!

I acquired these wonderful bedsprings yesterday and couldn't wait to do something with them. With an Alice-in-Wonderland theme in mind, I came up with this charming nodderhead rabbit. Seems he has lots of spring in his step. LOL!

feather your nest

I woke up this morning with this wonderful inspiration. I love to wake up that way. I see it as a gift from God - like a sweet little dream He gave me. I had already made a similar shadowbox, but not quite like this one. This sweet little fairy bird likes to sew and has feathered her nest with all kinds of her favorite things - 3 miniature spools of thread, a threaded needle, a miniature treadle sewing machine, a t-pin, and a metal snap that she has used to adorn her crown.

I'm late, I'm late . . .

. . . for a very important date. No time to say "hello", "goodbye". I'm late, I'm late, I'm late!

That is certainly how I feel as Christmas gets closer and closer and I'm not ready!!

Captured Winter Fairy - Edward

Yesterday evening, I saw tiny footprints all around my birdbath in the snow. I followed them and found this sweet little fairy boy talking to the rabbit who frequents the garden. I asked him what his name was. The dear fellow's name is Edward. He comes from a long line of fairies who live in these parts. He is one of four brothers and three sisters. He and his twin brother, Earl are the youngest in the family. If you listen carefully, you will hear him sing. He can make up songs at the drop of a hat. He is a pleasure to have around.
